A Masters Viva
On 4/1/2018, the postgraduate student "Mohammed Zuhair Mohammed Ali" was granted an M Sc. for his thesis:
"Robust Controller Design using State Derivative Feedback"
The examining committee consisted of:
- Azad Raheem Kareem (Chairman)
- Mohamed Jasim Mohamed (Member)
- Muna Hadi Salih (Member)
- Hazem Ibrahim Ali (Member & Supervisor)
In many mechanical systems, the accelerometers represent the main sensors of vibration. This means that the signals of states derivative are easier to obtain than the state signals. In this work, the design procedures of robust control using state feedback and state derivative feedback are presented. To show the effectiveness of the proposed controller, the active suspension system and mobile inverted pendulum system are considered.
A Masters Viva
On 28/12/2017, the postgraduate student "Zainab Khudhair Abbas" was granted an M Sc. in computers engineering for her thesis entitled:
"Designing a System for Human Object Image Recognition, Tracking, and Behavior Analysis"
The examining committee consisted of:
- Ashwaq Talib Hashim (Chairrman)
- Saffanah Haider Abbas (Member)
- Luma Issa Abdul-Kareem (Member)
- Laith Jasim Saud ( Member & Supervisor)
Object tracking is a main challenging issue in many important applications like computer vision, traffic monitoring, and surveillance. In this thesis, a human objects tracking software system is designed to track human objects in a sequence of video frames. The system involves three main consecutive parts (stages), object detection (extract the region of interest), object classification (recognize the object), and object tracking. That is beside some complementary stages.

The University of Technology Organizes a Recreational Trip for the Orphans of the Martyrs of the Popular Mobilization Forces

Based on the instructions of the Presidency of the University about taking care of the families of the martyrs of the army and the Popular Mobilization Forces, the Department of Control and Systems Engineering and the Directorate of Training and Workshops organized a recreational trip for the students of Kafil Alyateem orphanage in Rusafa - Sadr City on Saturday 23/12/2017 to Marsa Al Atifiya. The trip included free entrance of students to all games, lunch and some gifts. The atmosphere of the trip was cheerful and happy. The university staff participated in the fun activities with the children, giving them the love and care they missed after the loss of their families.
Dr. Haidar Abdul-Dahd, workshops Manager, and Dr. Azad Rahim Karim, Head of Control and Systems Engineering Department, directly supervised the trip.
This activity paints a beautiful picture of the cooperation between the university formations for community service. It is one of the many activities undertaken by the university in this regard, believing that the role of the university is to serve society in various fields, not just education.
We wish our beloved Iraq to remain well and sound, and we are grateful to our security forces and to our heroic PMF who fought terrorism and saved our dear country.
An M. Sc. Viva on a Proposed Design of a Secure Data Communication System
The postgraduate student (Saja A'llam Talib) was granted an M. Sc. in computers engineering on 27/12/2017 for her thesis:
"A Proposed Design of a Secure Data Communication System"
The committee consisted of:
- Thamir Rasheed Sa'eed as presedent
- Mahmood Zaki as a member
- Munaf Sabri Tappo as a member
- Azad Raheem Kareem as member and supervisor
Because security is an importance issue in our modern society, there is a lot of research nowadays that serve this subject and are all looking for the best way to increase the complexity of security systems. This work uses data security system depending on cryptographic technique by utilizing bidirectional associative memory after improving its performance and using the proposed algorithm in the encryption and decryption of data.
An M. Sc. Viva on Modeling, Control and Path Planning for a Quadcopter
The postgraduate student (Alaq Fallah Hassan) was granted an M. Sc. on 26/12/2017, for her thesis:
(Modeling, Control and Path Planning for a Quadcopter)
The committee consisted of:
1 - Dr. Omar Farouq Lutfy as president.
2-Dr. Osama Ali Awad as a member.
3-Dr. Bushra Kadhim Olaiwi is a member.
4-Dr. Laith Jasim Saud as Member and Supervisor.
The aim of the research is that Quadcopters (QCs) have received increasing interest due to their importance and increasing use in many vital applications. QC system represents a challenge for researchers as it is characterized by being nonlinear, underactuated, and strongly coupled. In this thesis, six different control schemes are designed for full control of an unmanned QC that serves the final goal of QC position control and trajectory tracking.
