Lecturer Academic in the Department of Control Engineering and Systems publishes a common scientific research in a global journal Scopas Journal in Malaysia

Asst professor Dr. Salim Khalefa Kazem has published a common scientific research with a many of researchers entitle is:-  Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Blood Flow Induced Vibration on Bileaflet Artificial Heart Valve by Using Fluid Structure Interaction Technique .

ABSTRACT:

Surgeries for replacement of artificial heart valves became more common and frequently used because of artificial heart valve failure. Determining the reason of the failure and finding suitable solutions require deep knowledge about artificial heart valve behavior and operation. The reasons of valve failure are related to the patient’s body and the valve design. The compatibility of the valve to a human body is associated with the dynamics of blood flow and the materials used to manufacture the valve. When blood flows through the arteries and valves, blood exerts forces at the valve components, thereby causing flow-induced vibration, which may damage the valve. In this study, fluid–structure interaction techniques to computational fluid dynamics analysis were used to investigate the effects of vibrations occurring via computer simulation. To obtain the optimal design of shear stress, the shear stress of the connection pin of an artificial heart valve were calculated and compared with the shear stress of the connection pin in the literature. At Reynolds number of 250, the excitation frequencies increased from 94.24 rad/sec to 126.9 rad/sec, which resulted in a 75% increase in shear stress values at the connection pin valve at a fully closed angle of 85°. The increase in frequency may cause resonance phenomenon, which will cause damage to the artificial heart valve components. Consequently, the blood components will also be damaged, thereby causing an increase in blood clogging occurrence downstream of the artificial heart valve.

Department of Engineering and Control Systems congratulates a lecturer academic after getting a certificate of doctorate from outside Iraq

Lecturer academic Dr. Tahgreed M. Mohammed Ridha who is working in control systems engineering department has got a PhD certificate from University of Ecole Centrale De nantes France as titled in :-  " Automatic Glycemia Regulation of Type I Diabetes "

Abstract :-

This thesis investigates closed-loop control for glycemia regulation of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). Two maincontroller categories are designed: non-model-based and model-based. To test their efficiency, both types are tested in silico on two T1DM simulators. The first is a long-term model that is derived from clinical data of T1DM subjects and the second is thewell-known Uva/Padova simulator. Firstly, Model-free Control (MFC)is designed: a variable reference intelligent Proportional(iP) control and a constant reference intelligent Proportional-Integral-Derivative (iPID). Better overall performance is yielded with iPID over iP and over a classic PID. Secondly, a positive Sliding Mode Control SMC is designed for the first time for glycemia regulation. The model-based controller is chosen for glycemia regulation due to its well-known robustness properties.More importantly, our main contribution is that SMC is designed to be positive everywhere in the positivelycinvariant set for the plasma insulin subsystem. Finally, a positive state feedback controller is designed for the first time to regulate glycemia. The largest Positively Invariant Set (PIS) is found. Not only control positivity is respected but rather a tight glycemic control is achieved. When the system initial condition belongs to the PIS, hypoglycemia is prevented, otherwise future hypoglycemia is predicted for any initial condition outside the PIS.

Asst professor Dr. Salim Khalifa Kadhim has participated in the an International Conference in Malaysia entitled: " Numerical investigation on effect of leaflet thickness on structural stresses developed in a bileaflet mechanical heart valve for its sustainable manufacturing "  .

Abstract. :-

Flow induced structural stresses can cause mechanical prosthetic aortic valve to fail due to yielding. In this study, we have performed the structural analysis, especially the effect of leaflet thickness on equivalent stresses developed in a Bileaflet mechanical heart valve (BMHV) due to blood flow through it has been investigated. The leaflet thickness varies from 0.5mm to 0.7mm, by 0.1mm. A fluid-structure interaction approach based on Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) technique has been employed with the aid of a user defined function (UDF). Results of the analysis show that high von Mises stresses are developed in BMHV with leaflet thickness of 0.5mm and 0.6mm, being 75% and 13% higher than allowable equivalent stress respectively. Such thinner leaflets are therefore, not sustainable to be replaced with diseased aortic valve.

Enhanced Performance of Consensus Wireless Sensor Controlled System via Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm Abstract:-

ABSTRACT:-

This paper describes the application of consensus optimization for Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) system. Consensus algorithm is usually conducted within a certain number of iterations for a given graph topology. Nevertheless, the best Number of Iterations (NOI) to reach consensus is varied in accordance with any change in number of nodes or other parameters of graph topology. As a result, a time consuming trial and error procedure will necessary be applied to obtain best NOI. The implementation of an intelligent optimization can effectively help to get the optimal NOI. The performance of the consensus algorithm has considerably been improved by the inclusion of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). As a case study, variable number of nodes in a network with a random graph topology has been considered. Simulation results show that significant reduction in the NOI and power consumption has been achieved, where it decreased the NOI about 40 iteration; when using PSO for different number of nodes in the specified network..

Robust Controller Analysis and Design of Medical Haptic Control System

-:Abstract

Haptic interfaces for medial simulation prove to be especially useful for training in minimally invasive procedures. In this research, a framework that consists of relevant representation of operator and environment dynamic of a tele-manipulated haptic system is implemented. The uncertainty model of the operator and environment models is considered as well to study the influence on the aspects of stability and performance. The framework of H loop shaping robust controller design is applied, then the stability and performance analysis is investigated. Parametric robust control design method is used as well for comparison. The v-gap metric is considered to develop an accurate measurement of uncertainty. Based on the obtained value of the v-gap an efficient procedure of robust control design is applied. The obtained values of v- gap were 0.1112 for the master and 9.755*10-4 for the slave parts of the haptic system, which indicate improved robustness of stability and performance as compared with the obtained values from parametric robust controller design.
