The Control and Systems Engineering Department Awards a PhD in Control Engineering By the grace of God, the public discussion of the doctoral student Mohammed Khazal Hamza, specializing in Control Engineering at the University of Technology / Department of Control and Systems Engineering, took place regarding his research entitled: Event-Triggered Robust Control of Nonlinear Networked Systems with Uncertain Dynamics The Viva took place on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the discussion room (Room 9) in the department. The discussion committee consisted of: 1. Prof. Dr. Amjad Jalil Hamidi / Chairman. 2. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahim Diab Hamoud / Member. 3. Asst. Prof. Dr. Muntadhar Sami Shaker / Member. 4. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Alaa Akleh / Member. 5. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayad Qasim Hussein / Member. 6. Prof. Dr. Safana Mazhar Raafat / Member and Supervisor. 7. Prof. Dr. Shibli Ahmed Hamid / Member and Supervisor. To accomplish robust stability of nonlinear systems subject to system perturbation and acquire satisfactory performance, it is required to continuously monitor the system measurements and provide periodic control actions, which is impractical in systems with limited communication bandwidth or processing capacity. This thesis considers using event-triggered techniques with sliding mode control and integral sliding mode control methodologies to reduce the load on the communication system between the systems and the controllers and minimize the consumed energy. The strategies for controlling multiple systems vary from SISO linear time-invariant systems to MIMO nonlinear systems. After the end of the discussion, the committee decided to grant the student a PhD with a grade of very good. On this occasion, we congratulate the student Mohammed Khazal Hamza and wish him continued success.

With the launch of the national afforestation campaign launched by the Prime Minister and under the patronage of the Mayor of Baghdad and in the presence of the Director General of Al-Dura Municipality and under the direction of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Azad Raheem, a group of affiliates, academic staff members, and students of the fourth stage participated in a large agricultural campaign within the association’s premises. The campaign included planting a number of trees and shrubs with the participation of the attendees. This campaign is the second of its kind for the department this year, as it was preceded by a large campaign inside the university gardens sponsored by the respected University President, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghaban. These participations come within the department's activities (The Student Activities and Volunteer Work Committee) in serving the community and preserving the environment. On this occasion, we congratulate the efforts of all participants.

Based on the noble prophetic hadith, ‘Cleanliness is part of faith’ and the famous Chinese proverb, ‘Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle’. On Saturday 19/10/2024, the voluntary campaign called for by the Head of the Control and System Engineering Department to clean the department and its facilities was launched, with the distinguished participation of the head of the department, deputy heads, branches’ heads, a group of lecturers, division managers in the department, a group of engineers, employees, workers, and a group of our dear students who spared no effort to make this campaign a success. The cleaning and organizing work was accomplished with great efforts by the participants who were united by their love for the department and the university. On this occasion, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who contributed by providing cleaning materials and supporting the campaign directly or indirectly, whether from teachers or employees. Finally, we say to those who excelled in cursing the darkness, we hope that you will light a candle.
